My name is Ahmed Ettaf. Elbanna. I was born in Cairo, the capital of Egypt in 1981 for a wonderful family who surrounded me with love and care from my very first day. My father is one of the reputable Civil Engineering consultants in the country and my mother is a Class-A Civil Engineer in the egyptian ministry of housing and construction.I won't also forget the role of my grandma who was the most merciful, loving and caring mother I have ever seen Thanks to that not only beloving but also engineering environment that helped me greatly in growing a sense of passion with science and mathematics. Brought up by the banks of the beautiful River Nile, where the world's oldest engineered civilization once existed, this passion increased day after day. Thanks to all magnificent persons who contributed to that including my family members,my school teachers, my wonderful professors in the college and my faithful friends .After graduating as the first of my class from the Civil Engineering department in the faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, I was assigned a teaching assistant post in the structural Engineering department in the same university. There, I obtained my first Master of science degree in Structural Engineering (May 2005). Since September 2005, I have been a PhD student in California Institute of Technology, where I concurrently obtained a second MSc degree in Applied Mechanics( June 2006). My PhD research lies at the borderline of geophysics, mechanics and statistical physics under the supervision of Prof. Thomas Heaton. In August 2006, I was blessed by getting married to my sweet cousin Sara and since then she has been a source of endless love and continuous support to me. My dream is to be a great scientist who can use his knowledge in solving the scientific mysteries our world challenges us with in the field of earth and material sciences and to apply his science in the welfare of the humanity.
